My uncle David's a Baptis...Your myth, not ours. My uncle David's a Baptist, he considers all sin the same, and so does almost every Protestant I've ever talked to. The seven deadly sins were around long before the Church. Whether or not we Christians called them that prior is s different story. Satan's sin was pride, which got him kicked out of Heaven by Saint Michael the Archangel. Sure, God could've done it himself, but He clear didn't want to, otherwise, He would've. The phrase "mortal sin" meaning "deadly sin" is the description of the type of sin (idolatry, graven images, taking His Name in vain, not going to church on Sundays, dishonoring you parents, murder, adultery, grand theft, perjury, covetousness) that damages your soul by disobedience to the Ten Commandments. Hence the need for Penance. Penance repairs the soul. Broken souls don't get into Heaven. There's no fixing your soul after you die. That's why we better hope our souls aren't broken when we die. If we have venial sin left on us, venial sin being sin that doesn't lose us our friendship with God, we'll have to pay that off in the next life. We agree that sin is revealed by ten commandments. The doctrine of the seven deadly sins is Catholic concerning lifestyle choices which can cause us to sin, but are not of themselves regarded as being sin. We regard blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, in accordance to the scriptures, as the only one that is mortal and unforgivable. It's your myth, not ours.BillMachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13380987866120284517noreply@blogger.com
